WPPD RECIEVES IACP TECHNOLOGY AWARD

The Winter Park Police Department (WPPD) has won the 2005 International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Law Enforcement Challenge’s Technology Special Award for the second year in a row. This award is the only one of its kind given to law enforcement agencies throughout the United States. Each year the WPPD participates in the Law Enforcement Challenge to showcase its award-winning traffic-safety measures with the nation. This year, the WPPD introduced more top quality traffic safety equipment such as confirmation lights attached to the top of traffic signals that enable officers to identify signal changes from the rear and Electronic Ticket Writers to assist officers in producing more professional traffic citations, reducing time spent at a traffic stop. The use of Variable Message Boards was also featured to warn motorists of road construction, special events, and emergency evacuation routes. The Florida winners of the 2005 Law Enforcement Challenge will be announced on August, 18, 2006, at Walt Disney World Resort®, followed by the national awards ceremony in October in Boston, where the Winter Park Police Department will be nationally recognized.
